It was forecasted that we would get a dusting of snow. It was supposed to be much worse south of us. It was a Tuesday morning when the flurries began. Brady kept running to the window to look out. Ed was home and decided to run out to Lowe's to pick up a few things to complete his honey-do list. He also found some rain boots for Eamon in the unlikely event that this stuff stuck. On his way home around 10:30, he was already sliding on the roads. Schools were to let out at noon and he considered going to pick up Eamon early so he could play in the snow. He decided that Eamon was probably safer riding the school bus home than in the car with us. Ed got home and took Brady out to play in the snow. A message came saying that school was now closing at 11:30. We also found out that the kids afternoon check-ups at the pediatrician had been canceled. A little before noon Ed and Brady walked to the bus stop to pick up Eamon, only to find out from some other parents that the buses has been sent back to school - the roads were too dangerous. After a phone call to the school to confirm, Ed set out on his hour long journey (traveling about 5 miles each way) to pick up Eamon. We were lucky - we were able to get Eamon home and we were all home, safe and together. Others not so lucky!
We had a great time playing in the snow. We found this snow tube that Grandma gave to Eamon several years ago and it was still in the box it came in. The boys slid down the backyard and then down the icy driveway into the street (yes, the adults were in the street making sure no cars were coming). Elsie girl took a long nap giving us lots of time to play outside.
After watching the news some more and seeing all of the stranded people all over the city, Ed decided that he needed to go ahead and leave Tuesday afternoon so he could make sure to get to work by 8am on Wednesday. We knew the roads would be better to travel on in the afternoon, rather than early in the morning. He left around 4 and it took him nearly 4 hours to get to work. He had to go around the mountain instead of over it.
Wednesday the boys were getting stir crazy, so I sent them out to play in the snow. This time equipping them with spray bottles full of colored water to paint the snow. They quite enjoyed this.
As you can see, a little more than the snow was painted.
We ventured out again Wednesday afternoon. It was still cold and snow still all over the ground, but lots of people were out walking around. Elsie was all bundled up and seemed to not mind being outside
We quite enjoyed our snow days!!!
